I was just in my car and heard today’s song. Tears on my Guitar by Taylor Swift, is this week’s song. This tune instantly grabbed me. Her voice is smooth and the lyrics are relatable. We have all experienced the silent crush. Liking or loving someone without them knowing. It certainly can be heartbreaking.

Lyrics

Teardrops on my Guitar

Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won’t see
That I want and I’m needing everything that we should be
I’ll bet she’s beautiful, that girl he talks about
And she’s got everything that I have to live without

Drew talks to me, I laugh cause it’s so damn funny
That I can’t even see anyone when he’s with me
He says he’s so in love, he’s finally got it right,
I wonder if he knows he’s all I think about at night

[Chorus:]

He’s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He’s the song in the car I keep singing, don’t know why I do

Drew walks by me, can he tell that I can’t breathe?
And there he goes, so perfectly,
The kind of flawless I wish I could be
She’d better hold him tight, give him all her love
Look in those beautiful eyes and know she’s lucky cause

[Repeat Chorus]

So I drive home alone, as I turn out the light
I’ll put his picture down and maybe
Get some sleep tonight

He’s the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only one who’s got enough of me to break my heart
He’s the song in the car I keep singing, don’t know why I do
He’s the time taken up, but there’s never enough
And he’s all that I need to fall into..

Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won’t see

There is nothing better than a great memory. Memories are what keep our mind young and our spirits high. I find it’s comforting to fall asleep remembering a special moment or time. I thought it would be appropriate to choose Bon Jovi’s Do You Want to Make a Memory for this week. The holidays are filled with memories that last a life time. I hope all of the memories you make this holiday season will be worth reflecting on.Merrry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you.

I realize this song is about a different type of memory. But still a good memory is a good one regardless.

YOU WANT TO MAKE A MEMORY LYRICS

Hello again, it’s you and me
Kinda always like it used to be
Sippin wine, killin time
Tryin to solve life’s mysteries
How’s your life, it’s been awhile
God it’s good to see you smile
I see you reachin for your keys
Lookin for a reason not to leave
If you don’t know if you should stay
If you don’t say what’s on your mind
Baby just breathe
There’s nowhere else tonight we should be
You want to make a memoryI dug up this old photograph
Look at all that hair we had
It’s bittersweet to hear you laugh
Your phone is ringin I don’t wanna ask

If you go now, I’ll understand
If you stay – Hey, I got a plan

You want to make a memory
You want to steal a piece of time
You can sing the melody to me
And I could write a couple lines

You want to make a memory

Thirteen Things about Maribeth

It’s no secret that I love music. I even started Friday’s Song a meme that highlights a song each week. If you have not visited on Friday’s yet, feel free to do so and participate. For this Thursday Thirteen I thought I would make a list of my thirteen favorite female vocalist. I have a somewhat raspy voice so I think I tend to like woman vocalist with similar tones in their voice. I definitely cannot sing but if I could, I would like to have one of these women’s voices. I included my favorite song by each of them with my list. . Happy Thursday

1. Cheryl Crow- ANYTHING BUT DOWN
2. Edie Brickell- Her Version of HARD RAIN’S GONNA FALL
3. Jewel- FOOLISH GAMES
4. Mazzy Star- FADE INTO YOU
5. Roberta Flack- THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE
6. Cass Elliott- DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME

Each month The Writer’s Digest holds a short story contest. They give you a prompt and a 750 word count, and then the rest, is yours to write. Last month’s prompt was to write a short story about the Strong Man and Bearded Lady, experiencing life as a newly married couple.

I thought I would try my hand at a sci-fi type/mystery short story. After I realized I did not win the contest I tried submitting it to the Alfred Hitchcock magazine and it was rejected. I have decided to post it on my blog because I’m not sure where else it would fit in. Its’ title is SHAVING MY PURPOSE.

I really believed Sam when he told me married life would be different. It was something about his chocolate browns that made me trust every word that came out of his mouth.     “Del,” he would say, “Once we’re married you can shave that silly beard and I can stop weight lifting so much.” I had visions of us walking into a restaurant like a normal husband and wife. There would be no awkward glances or long disgusted stares. My facial hair would be gone. Maybe I would see myself as he did, pretty. I was excited when I bought my first pack of disposable razors. I was shaving the ugly beard for my man, the man who looked past my beastly features. The man who told me I was beautiful and that together we could do anything.      No more freak shows, no more annoying kids, and best of all, no more traveling. I believed this man. I married this man. I loved everything about him. His muscles were rippled and his smile was captivating. I couldn’t wait for the night we shaved my beard. He promised it would be unforgettable.      I wanted to make sure the night would be just as perfect as our wedding. More perfect, I should say, we got hitched at a Vegas chapel. It wasn’t the wedding I always dreamed of. Beard shaving night would be better than my dreams. I purchased all sorts of romantic scents. I spent too much money on body oils and even splurged on a very expensive edible shaving cream.      He walked through the front door and called out my name. I adjusted the belt of my silk robe, making sure it wasn’t too tight. I ran a quick brush through my hair, squirted his favorite perfume on the back of my neck, cleared my throat and called out seductively “I’m upstairs, waiting for you.” My heart skipped with each step he took. I still couldn’t believe that I, the bearded lady was married to the most handsome man on earth. I was like a school girl waiting for the cute boy to come onto the playground. The only exception was the boy was coming to see me. In school that never happened. The cute boys made fun of me. They were the first one’s to call me a freak.     My mother told me she saw stubble within days of my birth. Her crazy witchdoctor advised her that if she was to shave it I would lose my purpose in life. My mother wasn’t all there. She believed that I was born with a beard for a reason. She scared me and told me never to shave it. As crazy as she was, I should have listened. Sam walked in the bathroom holding a half dozen of roses. He greeted me with a long kiss. “Last kiss before we shave that circus hair.”     I started to feel like something wasn’t right. I couldn’t understand then, but now I know, it was intuition. My stomach flipped and my hands dripped with sweat.      “Trust me,” he whispered. I handed him the razor and edible shaving cream took a deep breath and closed my eyes. He gently lathered the cream over my cheeks and chin. He licked a bit off of my lip and commented on how good it tasted. I expected him to take his time but instead he was rushing. It was not how I pictured the evening to be. If I had any sense I would have got up and ran. A sinister look spread through his chocolate browns. It wasn’t my Sam. A mad chuckle released from his lips the moment he finished the last stroke. “I did it!” He screamed.     I became paralyzed with fear as I watched his muscles expand bigger and his chest pump up two sizes. I grabbed onto my head. It was shrinking. The witchdoctor’s words barreled through my mind. I was losing my purpose. He stole my purpose to strengthen his strength. I’m back at the carnival freak show, where I will stay for the remainder of my life as the Tiny Head Woman. The last I heard he married The Fat Lady. I wonder what he wants with her voice.

Okay, this is the third Friday in Friday’s song. The past two weeks I played songs from long ago. This week I thought I would show you that I like today’s music too. The song I chose this week is Paralyzer by Finger Eleven.

I love the beat to this song. I especially love the lyric in the chorus(I’m not paralyzed but, I’m seem to be struck by you…) To me, this song represents that raw connection that happens between two people.  The magnetism of two souls drawn together creates a powerful energy.

Remember, this is a meme type of posting. Feel free to list your blog in my comments and post a song of your own. I will stop by your blog to check out your musical taste. Happy Friday

LYRICS

I hold on so nervously
To me and my drink
I wish it was cooling me
But so far, has not been good
It’s been shitty
And I feel awkward, as I should
This club has got to be
The most pretentious thing
Since I thought you and me
Well I am imagining
A dark lit place
Or your place or my place

Well I’m not paralyzed
But, I seem to be struck by you
I want to make you move
Because you’re standing still
If your body matches
What your eyes can do
You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you

I hold out for one more drink
Before I think
I’m looking too desperately
But so far has not been fun
I should just stay home
If one thing really means one
This club will hopefully
Be closed in three weeks
That would be cool with me
Well I’m still imagining
A dark lit place
Or your place or my place

Well I’m not paralyzed
But, I seem to be struck by you
I want to make you move
Because you’re standing still
If your body matches
What your eyes can do
You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you

We’ll I’m not paralyzed
But, I seem to be struck by you
I want to make you move
Because you’re standing still
If your body matches
What your eyes can do
You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you

Not paralyzed
But, I seem to be struck by you
I want to make you move
Because you’re standing still
If your body matches
What your eyes can do
You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you

You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you

You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you

Thirteen Things about Maribeth

My oldest daughter has been asking me to take her to New York City. I am fascinated with her fascination, being she is only seven years old. I have been to New York several times and enjoyed it every time. My most memorable trip to the Big Apple was four years ago. My girlfriends surprised me for my 30th with a trip to the city. This week I have decided my thirteen will consist of places I visited or things I did while in NYC.

1…Visited Time Square-The Excitement surrounding Time Square is very contagious. I love the hustle and bustle of it

2…Ate at Carmines-Probably one of the best dinners I ever had. If you are planning a trip to New York, I highly recommend a trip to Carmines. Be sure to call for reservations.

3…Rode in a Cab-It wouldn’t be a trip to the city without a ride in a cab. I even convinced the cab driver to let me get behind the wheel so my friends could take a picture of me pretending to be the cab driver. The picture turned out great

4…Sat in a cop’s paddy wagon-No, I wasn’t arrested but the cops were nice enough to let me jump in and take a picture while sitting in the passenger seat.

5…Had lunch in Little Italy-I loooove Little Italy, the restaurants are great and the atmosphere feels like home

6…Shopped in China Town- Loved seeing their culture through the shops and streets

7…Visited the Plaza Hotel- Very exquisite, I thought how nice it would be to actually stay there

8…Visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral-Absolutely Breathtaking. The one place I wanted to see before leaving the city.

9…Had brunch on the deck at The Loeb Boathouse in Central Park-Another beautiful eatery. The scenery was great and the Mimosa’s were delicious

10…Walked through Central Park- Up until this visit I never realized how big Central Park was. It truly is beautiful

11…Visited the Louis Vuitton-My girlfriends love these purses. I like them but probably will never be able to say I own a real one.(unless of course it’s a gift or a hand-me-down)

12…Fao Schwarz-Could not leave the city without gifts for the kids. There were lots to choose from in the gigantic toy store

13…Had celebratory drinks at the W- We had a blast celebrating my 30th here. The bar is very new age and fun.

I’m sure the thirteen places I take my daughter when we go will be somewhat different :)</

I stopped by the Writer Mama’s Blog today. She wrote a list of  self-care steps she set for 2008. She thought it would be fun to make it a meme. I agree, I have really come to like meme’s. The funny thing about meme’s are that, the person doing them are forced to look within theirselves and discover who it is they are. Or, in this case, who they aspire to be.

Below is my list. If you would like to see the Writer Mama’s, stop by her site and check out her ten.

My 2008 self-care goals

1. Listen to more music

2. Read more books (music and reading relax me, therefore has to be good for my health)

3. Incorporate more fruit into my day

4.  Do yoga more frequently

5. Get to bed earlier

6. Take more walks

7. Find more things that make me laugh

8. De-junk my mind by journaling more often

9. Put my feet up

10. Eat more protein and less carbohydrates

Below has been taken from the Writer Mama’s meme. Feel free to participate, it will help you find who you are looking to become:)

Okay, your turn! What’s your self-care plan for the New Year? I’m not going to pick anyone specific because I know most moms need to be asked about this.

It’s Friday again and I have decided what my Friday Song will be.

I am an optimist!
I am a dreamer!
I am a believer!

This week I have chose Imagine by John Lennon. I chose this song for many reasons.
As a little girl my big sister loved The Beatles. Because I loved her and thought she was pretty cool I listened to the music she listened to. The older I got, I realized she had a direct influence in who I became as a person.
This is one of those songs that makes me stop and think about the lyrics that are being sung. I imagine one day we will live in peace. 🙂

Don’t forget, if you would like to participate. Leave your blogs url in my comment section so we can check out your Friday song. If not, just feel free to leave a comment

Lyrics to Imagine by John Lennon

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
