There is a funny thing that happens when someone you love dies. You start searching for them. I noticed myself doing this more recently. I stare longer at the older man slowly crossing the street using his cane for support. For a brief moment, I swear it is my father and remember what it felt like to watch him walk across my path. While getting routine blood work today a man with very kind eyes sat across from me. Both of us sat with arms extended while the nurse searched for a vein to stick a needle in. He looked at me and smiled and I saw my father in his eyes. I immediately recalled my father and the fight he gave. In the end, his veins blew out from all of the blood work. I would sit next to him and advise the nurse to try his hand instead of his arms. I hear a song on the radio and I swear he played it for me. The lyrics become his voice and the song becomes his teaching. I search the children’s face, trying to catch a glimpse of him and smile when I see it. I ask myself a question and then answer it in the way I think he would. Photographs are priceless and when I look at them long enough I can quickly remember what it felt like to hold his hand, kiss his cheek, rub his shoulder or listen to him breathe. I get excited before I fall asleep hoping I will see him. I think dreams are the closest we have to understanding how our spirit leaves our body once we are gone. In our dreams we are talking, living, seeing but yet our body lays in a bed. My father’s spirit has been released and if I am lucky, our spirits meet up while I sleep. If that does not happen, then I will continue to search and hope I see a part of him in someone else and remember what it felt like to have him around.

I was taught that what you want and what you need is two different things. As long as you don’t want for too much you will always get what you need. If you love the simple things you will always feel satisfied.

I am going to write the lyrics to this song in my son’s baby book so one day when he is older he will read the words and hopefully understand.

Happy Friday

Simple Man Lyrics/Lynyrd Skynyrd

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.
Take your time… dont live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and youll find love,
And dont forget son,
There is someone up above.

(chorus)
And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Wont you do this for me son,
If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich mans gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

(chorus)

Boy, dont you worry… youll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

Hello again, it’s time for another research question.

In the past few years, Vera Bradley purses and their knock-offs have been big sellers. I, myself had my fair share of these pretty bags. I know why I liked them but now I want to know why others do.
Please take the time to respond to a few questions I have.

What is it about Fabric purses that you like?

What type of Fabric catches your eye?

What colors do you like to see in Fabric prints?

Do you like prints or solid Fabrics?

Are you more of a classic shopper or do you like to be trendy and on the hunt for the new big thing?

What age group do you fall in? E.G. 20’s 30’s 40’s 50’s etc.

Please participate, your help is appreciated.

I love quizzes. I especially love learning about myself and what makes me me. Here is a great site, check it out. When you click on the youniverse tab you will be able to see my personality profile. It’s so much fun and very interesting. Let me know what yours says about you.

I noticed that my recipe blogs get a lot of hits and since I am working on several writing projects and developing my own company (stay tuned!) I have not had extra time to devote to my blog. I thought I could manage to post a great recipe that my family loves. You will be happy to know it takes no time at all.

If you have read any of my recipe posts, you know that I am a little bit of this and a little bit of that type of gal. When trying to cook for six-you have to learn to be quick and that I am.

Gravy Meatball Pasta

2 jars of beef gravy

1 or 2 bags of frozen meatballs (we prefer turkey meatballs)

Handfull of Parmesan Cheese

Egg Noodles (you can use whatever you like)

Toss meatballs into gravy, dash salt and pepper and a handfull of parmesan cheese

Boil noodles, once done, spoon the meatballs and gravy over top and serve.

The last time I made this my family couldn’t get enough and my children said I was the best cook in the world. I still laugh at their words because none of it was homemade but it was sure tasty.

We all have something we need to rise above. Whether it’s a temptation or a loss, in order to gain insight and wisdom unfortunate occurences must happen. How we deal with these situations is what makes us stronger or weaker. Find the lesson in every situation and you will gain wisdom.

This week’s Friday’s song is Rise Above This by Seether

Take whatever situation that brings you down and rise above it!

Happy Friday!

What are you listening to?

Take the light, undarken everything around me
Call the clouds and listen closely I’m lost without you
Call your name every day when I feel so helpless
I’ve fallen down but I’ll rise above this, rise above this

Hate the mind, regrets are better left unspoken
For all we know, this void will grow
And everything’s in vain, distressing you though it leaves me open
Feels so right, but I’ll end this all before it gets me

Call your name every day when I feel so helpless
I’ve fallen down but I’ll rise above this, rise above this
Call your name every day when I seem so helpless
I’ve fallen down, and I’ll rise above this, rise above this doubt

I’ll mend myself before it gets me
(I’ll mend myself before it gets me)
I’ll mend myself before it gets me
(I’ll mend myself before it gets me)

Call your name every day when I feel so helpless
I’ve fallen down but I’ll rise above this, rise above this
Forty eight ways to say that I’m feelin’ helpless
I’m Falling down, falling down, but I’ll rise above this, rise above this,
Rise above this, rise above this doubtqcN3EGg#

Thirteen Things about Maribeth

I racked my brain this week trying to think of an interesting Thursday Thirteen.
I would rather not do one than just do one for the sake of it. So, I thought, wouldn’t it be fun if I listed thirteen things I am? Read mine and then post a comment stating something you are.

1… I am a mother/wife/sister/daughter/friend
2… I am a writer
3… I am spiritual
4… I am an optimist
5… I am of Italian/Irish descent
6…I am tired of getting rejections from publishers 🙂

8… I am a force to be reckoned with, at times
9… I am very approachable (At least I would like to think so)
10… I am anticipating the fall season
11… I am a dreamer
12… I am soul searching
13… I am setting new goals

Don’t forget, tell me something that you are.

For those of you who love to write, you are not going to want to miss Christina Katz’s back-to-school September giveaway. It’s a month full of fun! Last year I participated and won two great books.

Each day she posts a question. All you have to do is leave a comment with your answer and the rest is up to fate. If you are one of the lucky few, you will win a fabulous prize. Head on over to her blog and check out the great prizes she is offering this year.

Hope you win, heck I hope I win!

Skippity Doo Dah – isn’t that the cutest thing?  I overheard my oldest daughter singing to her little sister the other day. Instead of Zippity Doo Daa, she was singing Skippity Doo Dah. I deposited the moment into my memory bank so one day when they are all grown I could think back and remember Skippity Doo Dah.

Life skips by too fast. All we can hope for are wonderful days filled with sunshine.

Search for the silver lining in all of your clouds so that you won’t be stuck in too many storms.
