Thirteen Things about Maribeth

As I mentioned earlier in the week, Monday was my birthday. Birthday’s are to be celebrated, regardless of your age. Aging brings wisdom and that in itself is a wonderful gift to receive. I must admit however, sometimes I wish I did not know now what I did not know then. Once the light bulb (wisdom) turns on it gets harder to be the person you once were. This week I celebrated my birthday with thirteen very special women. Each one of them brings something different to my life and I would not want to live without any one of them. I received great gifts, much more than I needed but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t fun opening them. Here are thirteen fabulous gifts received. (Maybe a few more than thirteen)
1…Yankee Candle and a pair of hoop earrings (Thanks big sis)

2…A great tote bag by L.L. Bean and the Notebook DVD (Donna, what a friend.)

3…A year subscription to Cosmo (Rachelle, always known for her unique gifts)

4… The Instuction:Living the Life Your Soul Intended (I am already 75 pages into this thought provoking book by Ainslie Macleod- It’s easy to be a deep thinker when you have a friend like Jessica)

5… Half of my dinner (sushi) paid for, a great water bottle and Moana Lotion (Little Sis, loved her gift)

6… Grapesicle Lotion, Spray, and more lotion and spray from Victoria Secrets (Thanks to Heidi, I will be smelling good enough to eat)

7… Salt and Pepper Mill from Pampered Chef (Nicole knows how much I love fresh ground pepper)

8…A beautiful bracelet that looks like chain links but when you turn it sideways they spell God (My sister-in-law Renee knows how serious I am about my faith)

9… A Lia Sophia brown chunky bracelet and an awesome brown sweater to match (Kristen knows my taste. I am always looking for a zippie or a sweater to throw on and this one is my new favorite)

10…Lottery Tickets (Lori knows how much I love a scratch off, but unfortunately I didn’t win)

11…Cash (my mother knows that a married mother of four can always use some cash of her own)

12…Dinner (My hubby is taking me to dinner Friday night and I cannot wait)

13. An awesome pink hoody from Talbots (Big Big Sis-Love It!)

Opening the gifts was awesome but having everyone I love take time to celebrate my day was priceless. I am a lucky lady. I hope all of them know just how much I love them.

I love quizzes. I especially love learning about myself and what makes me me. Here is a great site, check it out. When you click on the youniverse tab you will be able to see my personality profile. It’s so much fun and very interesting. Let me know what yours says about you.

Let me pick your brains. I am researching something and need to see what percentage of women like to keepsake. Any ladies out there who enjoy scrapbooking or other means of keepsaking please respond and answer the following questions.

What do you like about scrapbooking?

What is your favorite way to keepsake?

Is Scrapbooking costly?

Do you keep Babybooks?

How do you keep your photo’s organized?

What age are you?
Okay, I hope I get a few responses on this one.

I’d love to hear how you got started.

Thirteen Things about Maribeth

I think I have mentioned before that I enjoy personality tests. I like to see if the results match my interpretation of myself. This week for Thursday Thirteen I am listing 13 test results I was given after taking tests at Tickle E Mode.
Do we match up? Stop by Tickle and take a test.

1…Where Does Your Inner compass Point- Result –Urban Expeditions (This states that I am a fast paced energy and make it happen type of person. According to this result I would be able to work my way out of a concrete jungle. It also states that my compass is most likely to point toward an adventure of sophistication.)

2…What’s Your True Talent –Result-Abstract Reasoning (I agree with this one-I am definitely more of an abstract person. The result states I have a rich imagination and have the ability to mix two unrelated ideas together to come up with a brand new one)

3…Which Hairstyle Matches You-Result-Cutting Edge ( I am the type of person who gets bored with the same hairstyle very quickly-although I must admit lately I have become the ponytail girl)This result states I need a hairstyle that stands out-True very true

4…Are you more Jennifer or Angelina- Result- Jennifer –I do like Jen’s down to earth style because I am pretty earthy myself.

5…Who were you in a past life-Result- An artist- Hmm interesting, I think of myself imaginative but can only draw stick figures. This result states that I march to the beat of my own drummer and do not follow the herd. Definitely true-It must stem from my father’s advice years ago-Be a leader not a follower.

6…What fashion decade is most you-Result- 50’s- It says whatever the occasion my polished look makes me one cool cat (I have always thought of myself more of a sixties/seventies girl-but I do like to be polished)

7…What’s your little black dress personality-Result-V-neck. I definitely am a V-neck girl, because I like to make my shoulders appear more narrow. (It states, I am down to earth and understand that it is what’s on the inside that counts-So true)

8…What renews your spirit-Result-Spending time with loved ones. (If you have ever read my blog, you already know this is correct, I am all about family, friends and sharing time together). This also states that I am always there for others and the best R&R for me is spending time with the ones you love.

9…What do your eyes say-Result-Sincerely Sweet- (I hope that is what others see)Results state that I have a big heart and can’t help but open it up to those I am close with.

10…What makes you amazing-Result-Sense of Humor-If you know me, then you know I have a quirky sense of humor-most of my friends share the same humor. I couldn’t imagine not having one.

11…What’s your fantasy home-Result-Nurturing Nest-I love to have visitors-This result states that I opt for colors, accessories and lighting that encourage people to take a seat and stay for a while. (I always want people to feel welcome at my house)

12…What flavor fits you-Result-Sunny orange-It states I have a sunny disposition and happy-go-lucky attitude. It states I am a glass half-full type of girl. Absolutely correct-Read my blog post If the glass if half empty fill it up. Life is too short to be pessimistic.

13…What’s your true color-Result-Green- This result states that green is the color of growth and vigor. Anyone with this result has a knack for bringing out the best in people. Success for us green’s is measured in terms of personal achievement and growth-not by status or position. I think it is easy being green unlike Kermit.

It’s amazing what other people can do for your blog. Tanyetta over at Days Like These mentioned my blog on her site and I have received tons of new visitors because of it.

I think it would only be appropriate if I offered her a special thank you and gave her blog a nod as well. She is a fellow mother married to her high school sweetheart raising a young adult child and a toddler. Upon reading her blog, you will discover her spirit is contagious and welcoming.

Thanks Tanyetta for finding something in my writing that you thought others would enjoy too.

Wow, my stats recently hit 10,000. I know some bloggers out there get that many hits in a day and might not be that impressed with my 10,000, but I am thrilled.

I first started blogging after reading the suggestion on Writer Mama’s Blog. It has turned out to be a wonderful way for me to keep the juices flowing. For those of you that have stopped by, left comments, put me on your blogroll, I thank you.

I have made new friends and met up with old ones thanks to this blog.

Blogging is a way to connect to people we may have never met.

I have been inspired by fellow writers and know we are all cheering each other on.

I am grateful for all my new friends.

God Bless,

Maribeth

It’s time for a Friday Song. This week I was thrilled to see a comment from one of my best friends.  I have not heard from her in a while and was delighted to know that she reads my blog. We spent a lot of our childhood doing much of nothing and if I could go back for a day I would.

This week I chose Dave Matthew’s Old dirt hill as the weekly song. It’s about growing up, falling in love and wishing you could go back. We shared all of that together.

Do you have a song that brings you back to childhood?

 Old Dirt Hill-Lyrics

Ride my bike down that old dirt hill (can’t catch me)
First time without my trainin’ wheels
First time I kissed you I lost my legs (can’t catch me)
Bring that beat back to me again

Scream and shout out loud our innocence
Days when all we did would never end

Bring that beat back to me again
Take me back, take me back, can’t catch me can’t catch me
Bring that beat back to me again
Take me back, take me back, can’t catch me can’t catch me

Smokin’ on the railroad bridge
I used to ride my bike down that old dirt hill
The first time I kissed you I lost my legs
Bring that beat back to me again

Scream and shout out loud our innocence
Days when all we did would never end

Screamin’ down that old dirt hill
Bring that beat back to me again

Oh when it gets hard
That’s when the days I remember seem so far
When I was just a kid that’s what I miss
When I was just a kid that’s what I miss
Take me back, Take me back to that beat again

Smokin’ on the railroad bridge
Bring that beat back to me again (again)
Bring that beat back to me again (can’t catch me)
Bring that beat back to me again
First time all we were was good friends
Bring that beat back to me again
Bring that beat back to me again
Bring that beat back to me again (can’t catch me)
Bring that beat back to me again
Bring that beat back to me again
Bring that beat back to me again

This week I listed things I remembered about being thirteen. I thought it would be appropriate to post a song I recall loving at thirteen.

Back in the day, my friends and I loooved Ozzy and thought his voice was the absolute best. He’s aged and so have we but we still have his songs of yesterday. Goodbye to Romance will always remain one of my favorites.

Even if you never listened or thought you could like an Ozzy Osbourne song, I think this one will pull you in.

Goodbye To Romance Lyrics

Yesterday has been and gone
Tomorrow will I find the sun or will it rain
Everybody’s having fun except me I’m the lonely one
I live in shame

Chorus:
I said goodbye to romance
Goodbye to friends….I tell u
Goodbye to all the past
I guess that we’ll meet, we’ll meet in the end

I’ve been the king, I’ve been the clown
No broken wings can’t hold me down
I’m free again
The jester with a broken crown
It won’t be me this time around to love in vain

Chorus…

And I feel the time is right although I know
That you just might say to me
What ya gonna do
What ya gonna do
Cause’ I have to take this chance
Goodbye to friends and true romance
And to all of you
And to all of you

Come on now..
Solo

Chorus…

And the weather’s lookin fine and I think the sun will shine again
And I feel I’ve cleared my mind all the past is left behind again

Chorus…

It’s Friday again. Time for another song. This week I really love Linkin Park’s Shadow of the Day. When I originally started Friday’s song I said sometimes I love a song because of a lyric. I love the line the sun will set for you.

After reading through the lyrics my analogy is that this song is about a person battling an illness. As much as the family and friends wished the person they loved would stay, it would be their passing that would be merciful.

The message in the video is a bit different than my interpretation.

I have a friend dealing with a dying grandparent as I write this. This song for me symbolizes the pain she is enduring watching someone she loves die.

Do you have a song this week you would like to share? If so leave us your site and we will visit.

Do you have a different analogy of this song? If so leave it in the comments.

The Shadow of the Day Lyrics

I close both locks below the window
I close both blinds and turn away

Sometimes solutions aren’t so simple
Sometimes good bye’s the only away

[Chorus]
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey

And the sun will set for you
[End Chorus]

And cards and flowers on your window
Your friends all plead for you to stay

Sometimes beginnings aren’t so simple
Sometimes good bye’s the only way

[Chorus]
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey

And the sun will set for you

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey

And the sun will set for you

And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey

And the sun will set for you
[End Chorus]

Turn up the music, feel the beat, don’t try to stop yourself just do what comes naturally, Dance! I love to watch people dance. Music produces an electrical current in our bodies which causes our shoulders to raise up and down, our legs to move back and forth and our arms to sway erratically. We groove to the rhythmic sound and allow ourselves to become part of the melody. Our body finds harmony with the beat. Dancing is a beautiful thing, whether you’re good at it or not. It’s a way for children to release their silly’s and adults to get rid of some stress. Even infants who cannot yet walk find themselves swaying their tush back and forth to the music. A dance floor of dancing people is a room of happy people. This past weekend I was at a wedding and I danced my butt off. Well, not actually, but it felt that way the next morning. The dance floor becomes a meet and greet.  Strangers dance up to you so they don’t have to dance alone. Friends encourage each other to enter the middle of a circle and show what they got. And Brides step onto the floor wearing their best accessory, their smile.

Reflecting back on my night I realized there are lots of categories dancers could fall in.  You got your Woo Hoo’s-the circle of older ladies that dance carefree and loud, shouting out joyful expressions with each groove. They can also be the mothers who are high-fiving each other on the dance floor because they finally got a night out. You have your two sets of Bumps and Grinds- The first set is the younger girls who dance together hoping to show off their sexy side. They use their girlfriends in front of them like a pole a stripper would use to dance. The more their girlfriends cheer them on they sexier they dance. The second set of Bumps and Grinds are the couple that uses dancing as a way to ravish each other, without actually ravishing each other. There are the Elegants- the couple who would never touch each other inappropriately on the dance floor. Their moves are in sync and their eyes stay lovingly fixated on each other. Every move appears to be choreographed and you can bet they have taken some type of ballroom dance class. There are the Awkwards- Their moves are a bit more forced and they lack the ability to really let go and get lost in the music. It is obvious they are concentrating more on how others perceive them than they are on dancing. A dance floor wouldn’t be a dance floor without the Circle About’s-these are the dancers that use every inch of the floor. They circle in and out, maneuvering their way around, oblivious to the other dancers. They are fun to watch and make the people sitting down want to at least give dancing a shot. I love to watch all of these dancers because for a small moment in time I get to witness people enjoying life. Rejoicing and using the flexibility our bodies provide. But this moment can also be bittersweet. While so many of us are laughing, dancing, and using our bodies, their are other people watching, wishing, and remembering how it felt to dance. At some point our bodies will fail us and we will no longer be able to race up to the dance floor and let it all out. We will be forced to watch from afar. On that day we will want to remember that we danced while we could. So, no matter what type of dancer you are embrace it. For there will be a day that we no longer dance but knowing we did will make that day a bit easier.
