We all have a demon. Something or someone lurking inside of us begging us to go the wrong way, do the wrong things or make the wrong choices. What the demon tempts us with may differ but his intention is the same, he wants us to fall. After reviewing some of my writings, I stumbled upon something I wrote a long time ago. It’s a bit dark but it came from within.
I’m not even sure where I would market a poem like this, so I thought I would paste it on my blog.
When the demon strikes, strike back by refusing to give in to the temptation being dangled in front of you.
Please help me
My mind is consumed
With images of you
I blink, scream,sleep,
Try to erase the view.
A minute, a second, a year
My soul is shaking, I have changed
I scream out, save me, I live in fear
A moment has passed, I tried to think,
Of something else, something right
You are the quench of my thirst
I must take a drink, but I won’t
I can’t, it’s poison, it will instantly kill
The life I have been living,
Why am I seeking this thrill?
The demon is axing away, chopping
At my very core, laughing, haunting
Tempting with no sign of stopping.
He takes on an innocent form
Waving behind you, commanding the storm
Only when I am left crying on the floor
Knowing I destroyed me, will he shut the door.
This week my mind took me back to my favorite movie of all time, The Outsiders. I loved The Outsiders Movie and can appreciate that the book is required reading for many highschool students. S.E. Hinton was only sixteen when she wrote the novel and was eighteen when it was published. The writer in me finds that inspirational. This movie might be the reason that sparked my interest into writing and poetry. Robert Frost’s poem Nothing Gold Can Stay never left my soul once I heard it read.
Today I choose to list Stevie Wonder’s song Stay Gold as the song of the week. The melody alone can make me cry, but it’s Stevie’s voice that does it.
I will list the lyrics to Stay Gold and also Robert Frost’s poem Nothing Gold Can Stay.
Have a great weekend.
Leave a comment if you loved The Outsiders too and who your favorite character was.
Stay Gold (Stevie Wonder)
Seize upon that moment long ago
One breath away and there you will be
So young and carefree
Again you will see
That place in time…so gold
Steal away into that way back when
You thought that all would last forever
But like the weather
Nothing can ever…and be in time
But can it be
When we can see
And yes you say
So must the day
Too, fade away
And leave a ray of sun
Life is but a twinkling of an eye
Yet filled with sorrow and compassion
Though not imagined
All things that happen
Will age too old
Nothing Gold Can Stay(Robert Frost)
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Last week I wrote about how I didn’t win the Writer Mama’s writing contest. I was boo-hooing for a bit and feeling rejected. But today I am woo-hooing it and feeling excited. I just found out I won the September 4th give-away from commenting on the Writer Mama’s blog. I am super-super psyched. The books I won will be of great help and be put to good use, just in time for my birthday. So see, life has a way of turning bad days into good. And today is certainly a good one. Be sure to stop by her blog and maybe you will be the next winner. Let me know how it goes. Thank you to Peggy for commenting and letting me know I won. Keep on Writing, Reading, and doing whatever it is that brings a smile to your face. I will be walking around with my smile. I hear it’s the latest trend. :):):)

I am lazy. Why? I don’t know.
I am ambitious, although it doesn’t show.
My dreams differ from my reality, Can’t tell you why.
I see my vision before me, begging me to try.
I promise I will. I convince myself it will be.
But here I am. Resting, sleeping, yeah that’s me.
One day I will wake up, my mind will run free.
Clarity will visit. It waits patiently. Hoping I will see.
Eventually I will resurface, emerging from the fog.
The dust of questions will settle and clear.
I will be energized, destiny is destiny, get rid of the fear.
I did something the other day to help push me in the right direction. I took another writing class. This is an advanced course that will help with the completion of my novel. I want to be the person I envision myself to be. Not the person I am. Who is the person I envision? I see a go-getter, a girl who knows what she wants and then finds a way to get it. I know I am that girl, but I am also another girl, the daydreamer. The girl who looks out the window and fantasizes about what she wishes she could do. The older I become the clearer it is. Those hopes of a fool’s paradise are tangible if I utilize my time properly. I tend to waste time thinking about having a published novel rather than working hard to make sure my novel is published. I write everyday, probably a thousand words or more. If I took all the words I wrote for one month and added them to the novel I have started it might be finished. I stand in my way and I think it’s time I step aside. I fear failure but I fear success just as much. A wise person once said if you want something done do it yourself. I know there is no one out there that will walk up to me and say “Hey I heard you wanted to write a novel, tell me what you want it to be about and I will write it for you.” And if there was a person that offered to do that I would turn them down. It’s like stealing the answers from the kid next to you. You might get a good grade but you don’t get satisfaction or a sense of accomplishment. I want the good grade and know I studied very hard and earned it. I am who I am but it’s I who could change me.
Sometimes dreams feel so real that it’s hard to believe they’re not once you awaken. Last night I had one of those dreams. When I woke up my cheeks were damp from tears I must have shed while dreaming. I dreamt someone I loved died. I can recall the emptiness I felt when I was told she was gone. It was as if I was drowning, but the water I was swimming in was life. I panicked and grabbed at air trying to pull the reality that I knew back into the reality I was now in. The same way a person would grasp for air to fill their lungs. But the air this person gave me was gone and my lungs collapsed, metaphorically speaking. I sat up in bed reassuring myself. I was relieved to enter back into the world I knew. I remembered the last image I saw in the dream. It was the girl walking out a door, I only caught a glimpse of her. By the time I saw her she was already on her way out and I knew she’d never return. A sentence kept repeating in my head which prompted me to write the following poem.
I caught a glimpse of her, she didn’t see me.
She carried a bag and walked through the door, it was her exit.
She wouldn’t be coming back
Her silhouette glided
The light of her existence turned black.
Like a hole with nothing I am empty.I reached for her, she never knew.
She was gone. She passed through the door and entered eternity

Heaven needed an angel
One who was smart and kind.
They searched the earth
She was very hard to find.
Sharon’s spirit shined bright like the sun.
Heaven caught a glimpse and knew she was the one.
They didn’t ask our permission, we would’ve never agreed
She was one of us and now our hearts are left to bleed.
Today her spirit has been freed and she will fly
No doubt she will protect us until the day we die
She will watch over her family and keep them secure
She will be by their side when life is hard to endure
She is preparing her home for when we get to see
She is planning the celebration for our jubilee
She will ring the bells and gather everyone around
She will show us pictures of the day she was crowned
For a queen she is inside of Heaven’s doors
No longer will she suffer heartaches and wars
Until the day we meet up way beyond the sky
Take care our love, use your wings and fly
