Thirteen Things about MARIBETH
I keep baby books for all of my children. On the last page of their books, I included something called Mommy’s Quotes/Words to live by. Anytime I come across a quote that speaks to me and will help my children understand what my views were I write them down. I hope that one day they will read those quotes and their eyes will open to a different way of thinking. This week for Thursday Thirteen I have decided to include 13 of the quotes I have written. I hope you enjoy reading them.

…TREAT PEOPLE AS IF THEY WERE WHAT THEY OUGHT TO BE AND YOU WILL HELP THEM BECOME WHAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF BECOMING(Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe)-My all time favorite quote. I believe these words are true. Sometimes it takes someone else believing in you to believe in yourself.

…WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE TIME WHEN THE POWER OF LOVE WILL REPLACE THE LOVE OF POWER. THEN WILL OUR WORLD KNOW THE BLESSINGS OF PEACE. (William Edwart Gladstone)- This quote is right on. I think a large part of our demise will be that people would rather have power than love, even though they would tell you different. I want my children to embrace the power of love rather than the love of power.

…DISCOVERY IS SEEING WHAT EVERYBODY HAS SEEN AND THINKING WHAT NOBODY THOUGHT. (Albert Vonszent Gyorgyi)- The creative side in me can appreciate these words. There are so many times that I will read another persons writing and think “Now why didn’t I think to write that.”

…DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW, FOR TOMORROW WILL WORRY ABOUT ITSELF. EACH DAY HAS ENOUGH TROUBLE OF ITS OWN. AFTER ALL TODAY IS THE TOMORROW YOU WORRIED ABOUT YESTERDAY! (MATTHEW 6:34). Great advice, live in the moment instead of the future.

…COURAGE IS THE ART OF BEING THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS YOUR SCARED TO DEATH. (HAROLD WILSON)-Very valuable words, I want my children to know even the bravest men get scared.

…ALL KIDS ARE GIFTED; SOME JUST OPEN THEIR PACKAGES EARLIER THAN OTHERS. (MICHAEL CARR)- I don’t believe in comparing yourself to others-each of us have something we are meant to do. Some of us don’t tap into it until later in life. I want my children to know that even if their grades are not as good as the kid’s sitting next to them it doesn’t not mean they don’t have something just as special.

…EVERYTHING HAS A MORAL,IF ONLY YOU CAN FIND IT (LEWIS CAROLL) In school I always loved when the teacher would say “So what was the moral of the story?” We would debate back and forth until we all agreed. Every situation has a purpose and you can lose out in life if you don’t try to figure out why things happened or what lesson you were being taught.

…THE PURPOSE OF LIFE IS A LIFE OF PURPOSE. (ROBERT BYRNE). Don’t spend too much time asking yourself what am I supposed to do, just choose what you like and then do it-somewhere along the lines you will find your purpose

…HAVING CHILDREN MAKES YOU NO MORE A PARENT THAN HAVING A PIANO MAKES YOU A PIANIST (MICHAEL LEVINE)-It takes a lot of hard work to be a parent. Words I have lived by that my father would always tell me-“Anyone can be a mother or a father but not everyone can be a mommy or a daddy. There is a true difference.

…THE MOST IMPORTANT THING A FATHER CAN DO FOR THEIR CHILDREN IS LOVE THEIR MOTHER-(THEODORE HESBURGH)-Up until today, I thought a customer of mine actually made that up. But I was pleased to find out he stumbled upon it and it stuck with him enough to pass on to me. A great quote! I think that is why I have always respected my own father so much- he once told me his purpose in life was to take care of my mother. And he has more than he knows.

…PATIENCE AND PERSEVERENCE HAVE A MAGICAL EFFECT BEFORE WHICH DIFFICULTIES DISAPPEAR AND OBSTACLES VANISH. (JOHN QUINCY ADAMS). Even in the darkest hours, you have to believe that light will reappear. I want my children to know that they will have struggles but it’s how they handle those struggles that will allow them to rise above.

…THERE IS NOTHING IN A CATERPILLAR THAT TELLS YOU IT’S GOING TO BE A BUTTERFLY (BUCKMINSTER FULLER) –Love this! Don’t ever assume that you don’t have what it takes to become something beautiful

…TELL ME WHO ADMIRES AND LOVES YOU AND I WILL TELL YOU WHO YOU ARE (CHARLES AUGUSTIN SAINTE-BEUVE) –It’s more than the company you keep. It might show you just how many people you have touched and how so.
